use wpa 2 with a good password , did you hear about tj maxx they used no encryption not even wep also they had no firewall and 200 million credit card numbers got stolen, and if you have file and print sharing on just dont share anything important in shared folder.

You might want to use a crazy long string for your WPA password (always use WPA if you can, WEP can be cracked in under 5 minutes.) A great place to get really long random strings for your WPA passwords is the GRC password generator (google it) - I always take one then put it in a text file which I save to a usb flash drive then I just copy paste into each computer.

It would work for most routers. If your router don't wpa try upgrading firmwire. Use WPA. WEP is basically useless. If there's no firmwire upgrade or the firmwire dosen't give WPA option then you either use less secure WEP or buy a new router around $50.

The steps might be slightly different for each manufacturer, but for the most part, it should be similar no matter what router you are using.
