The twin demon of apathy is cynicism. Apathy is the general disease of society. Cynicism is the disease that can affect those of us who aren't apathetic. I guess we have to go to Gramsci "pessimism of the intellect, optimism of the will." We got to have a balance between those two extremes to fight apathy and cynicism. It's a long struggle.

Apathy is a killer of society and it is used against us quite efficiently in the US. Our education systems dums us down (less critical thinking skills are practiced). I also agree that the extreme of being too optimistic is a danger. Spiritual beings have advocated the middle path for this very reason. the ego is deceptive. I will say also that Youtube is an information movement. Its a bastion of freedom so far. I'm sure its being watched.

I am not sure that every individual has to have every characteristic ascribed to human nature in order for those characteristics to be broadly generalized. And how do you know that just because you have never been violent that you will never be violent?

It helps to meet different kinds of people. Being in a cult only allows people to see things one way. I would suggest holidays to places nobody else goes.

This is interesting, and very relevant to a book I'm reading at the moment - "Unspeak" by Stephen Poole. Highly recommended, as are you. And thus I have another subscription via the great 8rf.

Yt is a great tool gratex. You know it. Don't take TAA's asu as an example. To rid the world of theism is more daunting than getting rid of any ism. Now is not the time for atheistic mass movements. There are other dragons to slay first. But a democratic socialist mass movement here in the US is attainable. You're doing your bit believe it or not.

I've always been eager for change, more eager than most, here in the US. The burnouts I've experienced came from the fact that folks weren't as eager as I have been.

The best thing to have is self-awareness.

Also a huuuge fan of TedTalks. As is abortedsoul, and FantasticBabblings, who've both mentioned some. And the cult of personality part, yeah. Very common because of the way many people lionize their heroes, like they can do no wrong, which is so never true.
