On the initial disappearing act above the crowd, the sheet pulls off directly in line with the runway path -- covering both sides from crowd view. The camera is facing directly down the runway, adverting your attention to the box itself. The simple explanation is that they ran, under the cover of the sheet, as it pulled down on a wire system toward the hidden slide that goes below stage.
