Koto Shamisen

	Duration: 02:39 minutes Upload Time: 07-02-04 11:44:41 User: timtak1 :::: Favorites
Description: Yamaguchi University Koto club play their traditional Japanese musical instruments, which are Koto (flat bed harp) and shamisen (a sort of three stringed, guitar-like instrument) in a traditional Japanese setting. They played very well. The only problem with the performance was that each song lasted about 15 minutes and they did three. I think that the audience should have been encouraged to treat them as background music because as background music it would have been very good, especially had they been futher from the food. I was not sufficiently enamoured of their playing to want to dedicated my attention to it for 45 minutes, even though it was very atmospheric. The Japanese present felt oblidged to stop their conversations and listen to the performance and only the gaijin kept talking at the back. This video shows only the last minute and the appause from the audience. Uploaded without the performers permission. Please let me know if you want it taken down tim at nihonbunka dot com.

timtak1 ::: Favorites Glad you all like it. I am in breach of copyright (their performance - the music is I believe trad). I am hoping that there is some fair use-ish excuse and believe that it is for the good of humanity but if any of the people featured here want me to take this down then I will immediately. 07-07-10 10:42:20 _____________________________________________________

ytcomposer ::: Favorites すみません、Timtak； I love this style of koto-shamisen-shakuhachi ensemble playing, but I'm having a hard time finding it. I usually end up getting lots of beautiful Tsugaru, but what is this ensemble style called? よろしくお願いします。 07-07-23 12:54:01 _____________________________________________________
timtak1 ::: Favorites To be honest, I have no idea. I will try and find out but it will not be soon. Perhaps I could even ask them if they would be so kind as to let me video them in high definition. 07-07-30 19:58:25 _____________________________________________________
